Goose hunting takes place in the Pechora Bay area, 50–120 km from Naryan-Mar, near the coast of the Barents Sea.
The spring season falls in mid-May, when waterfowl migrate from south to north. The fall hunt takes place in September–October during the permitted hunting season.
Hunting is conducted from pre-prepared blinds. Each blind accommodates two hunters. Decoys and calls are used.
In the Arctic, the polar day begins in the spring, so daylight hours place virtually no restrictions on hunting.
Temperatures during the spring hunting season can range from approximately −5 to +10 °C. You’ll need warm, waterproof clothing and footwear, camouflage gear, a sleeping bag, marsh boots or insulated waterproof boots, and sunglasses.
